JUAN LAGO
From the early stages of his career, Spanish born pianist Juan Lago was awarded in the most prestigious national competitions and more recently, became a Laureate of the XXIII “Valsesia-Musica” International Music Competition in Varallo (Italy), XX “Cidade de Ferrol” International Piano Competition (Spain), IX “A. Scriabin” International Piano Competition in Grosseto (Italy) and VI “Spanish Composers” International Piano Competition in Las Rozas (Madrid, Spain). Consecuently, Juan Lago made his first European tour and his first CD recording released by “Radio Clásica” Spanish National Radio with sonatas by Beethoven, Scriabin and Bartók.
 
Juan Lago has performed in Portugal, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Russia, Turkey, United States, China, South Korea and all major cities in Spain as a recitalist, chamber musician and as concerto soloist playing under conductors such as Ovidiu Balan, Emin Guven Yasliçam, José Ramón Encinar, Ernest Martínez Izquierdo, Joachim Jousse, José Luis Martínez and Francisco de Gálvez among others, as well with orchestras such as the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana (Italy), “Mihail Jora” Philharmonic Orchestra of Bacau (Rumania), Çukurova State Symphony Orchestra (Turkey), Istambul Chamber Orchestra (Turkey), and the Spanish Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid, Orquesta de Córdoba, Orquesta de Valencia and Orquesta Sinfónica de Málaga.
 
Highlights of recent seasons include appareances as a performer and Master classes presenter in the Washington International Piano Festival in Washington DC, Festival del Mediterráneo at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia (Spain) directed by Zubin Mehta, Talent Music Summer Courses (Brescia, Italy), Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln (Germany), Musical Krasnogorsk (Moscow, Russia), Schubertiaden Schnackenburg (Germany), Vila-seca Festival (Spain) directed by Paul Badura-Skoda, and International Piano Festival in Italy (Pescara, Italy).
 
As an avid chamber musician, Juan Lago has collaborated with violinists Vasco Vassilev, Alissa Margulis and Santiago Juan, violist Santiago Cantó, cellist Alexander Buzlov and Iván Balaguer and pianist Belén Navarro.
 
He has presented lectures at Universidade de Aveiro (Portugal), Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln (Germany), Hochschule für Musik Aachen (Germany) or Conservatorio José Iturbi of Valencia.
 
Juan Lago is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Campillos International Piano Competition since 2007, the Paterna Piano Prize in 2011 and the Director of the Piano Department of the Valencia International Performance Academy and Festival (VIPA) in Spain. In addition, he is the Artistic Director of the “Amadeus” piano concert series, the Fine Arts and Bancaja Foundation piano series organised by “Eutherpe Foundation” in Valencia, and the Campillos Chamber Music Festival.
 
He is often invited to serve as a jury member in competitions like Cantù (Italy), ClaviCologne (Aachen, Germany), S. Rachmaninoff (Moscow, Russia), F. Chopin (Hartford, CT. USA), and many others.
 
From 1999 Juan Lago is a faculty member at the José Iturbi Conservatory in Valencia (Spain) where he became the Chair of the Piano Department since 2010. His students have been awarded more than 100 top prizes in national and international piano competitions. 
 
Juan Lago is a graduate of the Amsterdam Conservatorium where he studied during 5 years under Professor Jan Wijn. In Spain his main teachers were Ana Guijarro (Real Conservatorio Superior de Madrid) and Juan J. Peralta (Conservatorio Superior de Málaga). He has also been influenced by the pianists Gyorgy Sebok, Eugen Indjic, Stanislav Pochekin, Imre Rohmann, Claudio Martínez Mehner or Leonel Morales.
Laureate of international competitions like Valsesia Musica, A. Scriabin, Ferrol and Las Rozas. He has performed extensively in Europe, Asia and America. Artistic Director of Campillos International Piano Competition, Piano Department of Valencia International Performance Academy and several piano and chamber music concert series in Spain. Jury member of competitions in Campillos, Las Rozas, Cantù, Aachen, Moscow, Hartford, Washington DC. Master classes in Spain, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, China, Korea and USA. Professor and dean of piano department at Jose Iturbi Conservatory of Valencia.  His students has achieved more than 100 top prizes in national and international piano competitions.
